The University of Brighton (UoB) is helping growers across Sussex make better use of data and technology through the Growing Sussex project. Working with the horticulture, viticulture and farming sectors, the University supports the adoption of digital tools that improve productivity, sustainability and profitability.
Modern farms and growing environments generate large amounts of data from sensors, cameras and monitoring systems. UoB brings these different data sources together and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify patterns and insights that help growers make more informed decisions.
By analysing both live and historical data, AI can help detect crop or animal health issues earlier, optimise the use of water and nutrients, and improve growing conditions. This enables growers to move from reactive management to proactive, data-driven decision making, improving efficiency, resilience and yields.

The University also helps develop robust business cases for new technologies, showing how digital solutions can reduce costs, increase productivity and deliver a strong return on investment.
Alongside innovation, UoB supports skills development by working with colleges and training providers to ensure learners gain experience with the technologies and data used in modern agriculture.
Through its expertise in AI, analytics and business insight, the University of Brighton is helping to create a more productive, sustainable and future-ready agricultural sector.
